Urinary Incontinence and the Importance of Ben Wa Balls/ Kegel Balls in Pelvic Muscle/ floor strenghtening!

BEN WA BALLS
Invented hundreds of years ago, Ben Wa Balls were made to enhance sexual stimulation and to exercise the kegel muscles. Still popular to this day, Ben Wa Balls have been one of women's favorite items to use. Now they come in many varieties and variations called Duotone Balls and Kegel Balls. People also refer these kind of products as Ben Wah Balls, Pleasure Balls, Orgasm Balls, Love Balls, and Smart Balls.
Ben Wa balls may also be used to simply increase the strength of the pelvic floor muscles,. Similar to Kegel exercises, Ben Wa balls and other shaped vaginal weightlifting equipment are recommended by gynecologists and obstetricians to increase vaginal elasticity and bladder control. Vaginal weights come in a spherical shape and are used in increasing weights to strengthen the vagina, which improves sexual performance. Mild  urinary incontinence, such as that which occurs while coughing, laughing, or sneezing and occurs more often as women grow older, can be treated with Ben Wa balls,] vaginal weights, or Kegel exercise.

Ben Wa Balls are great for strengthening your pelvic floor muscles. Since the balls are weighted, you have to use your muscles in the vagina to hold them in. With Kegel Balls, you can squeeze on the elastic silicone or increase resistance by tugging on them. Doing these exercises daily will tighten and firm your vagina muscles. Many gynecologists also recommend using kegel exercisers to treat urinary incontinence since stronger pelvic muscles improve bladder control.

What are Kegels?
Your Kegel muscle is the muscle found along your pelvic floor, also known by its official name, the pubococcygeneus (PC) muscle. Have you ever had to pee really, really badly, but there isn’t a bathroom or suitable bush in sight? The PC muscle is what you’re clenching in order to stop urination. Bet you never thought you’d learn scientific terminology for “holding it in”! That squeezing motion is also the basis of all Kegel exercises, which rely on repeated contraction and release in order to grow stronger.

What can Kegel exercises help me with?
Although Kegel exercisers tend to be marketed primarily toward those with vaginas, everyone can do them, regardless of genitalia. Healthcare professionals recommend Kegel exercises for a variety of different health benefits. Strengthening the Kegel muscle can help treat urinary incontinence, prevent vaginal prolapse, speed up vaginal recovery post-pregnancy, and treat inflammations in the prostate gland.
However, even without pre-existing medical conditions, there isn’t a wrong reason to try them out. Try squeezing your pelvic muscles and holding that tension for three seconds, and then relaxing for three seconds. Repeating this exercise 10 to 15 times per session, over three to four sessions a day, is the typical recommendation, and you can multitask by doing your exercises while in class, on the subway, at your desk, or anywhere else, with complete discreetness.
In addition to medical benefits, Kegel exercises also can have a powerful effect on your sex life! You may notice while doing Kegel exercises that the tightening motion is very similar to contractions that occur in the body during climax: stronger Kegels make for stronger contractions, and often ramp up the explosive potential of orgasms – quite the reward with very little effort required on your part!  Furthermore, while Kegel exercises will not make the vagina tighter, they do allow for greater control of the vaginal muscles.
Strengthening your Kegel muscle can also help give you better control of orgasms and ejaculation, which is why we recommend them as a basic tool to address premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction and difficulties orgasming in general.
Painless, effortless and incredibly beneficial, these exercises are some of the easiest ways to increase sexual pleasure without tremendous cost or risk.

Where do these balls come in, then?
Although you can do Kegel exercises on your own without any tools, Kegel balls are helpful because they don’t require any concentration or forethought – no need to count sets or seconds, much less remember to do them at all. These useful balls directly stimulate the Kegel muscle, which is especially helpful for those who have difficulty isolating their Kegel muscle, which forgoes much of the benefits.
Kegel balls are body-safe hollow balls with tiny weights inside of them that are inserted into the vagina and left there. Once they’re resting inside of you, the weights will bounce around, and the kegel muscle will involuntarily contract as a result of this movement. While it may sound daunting, it is actually quite effortless, as the contractions are not uncomfortable, and you might find yourself wanting to wear them out and about all day. They’ll just be your little secret when you hand documents to your boss or stand on an escalator – your jiggly, orgasmic little secret.
When inserting Kegel balls, particularly for the first time, it helps to lie down with your legs relaxed. Apply an ample amount of lubricant to the balls (preferably water-based, as silicone lubes could break down your Kegel balls if they are also made of silicone), and slide them in one by one at a speed that is comfortable for you.. Push them upward, similarly to how you might push in a tampon, as far as they will go comfortably. Once they’re in, just stand up and concentrate on contracting your pelvic muscle to keep it from falling out.

When should you increase your exerciser weight?
We recommend you choose a weight according to your level. If after 2-3 weeks the exercises require little effort and you have followed the guidelines for advancing your routine, then you may choose to progress to the next weight level. For example, if you use a 28g/1oz. exerciser for 2-3 weeks and feel comfortable enough to challenge yourself further, you should then increase to a 38g/1.3oz. exerciser.you would usually start with the larger balls which weigh less, then u can move to the medium which is a little bit smaller and weighs a little  more which requires more effort and then finally to the smallest size which weighs more and requires the most efforts to keep it in. Beginers are advised to start with about 15 mins for  3 times in a week.

Inserting Ben Wa Balls
Inserting the balls, or “wearing” them as you might hear it referred to is a relatively straight forward process but it can vary a bit depending on what type of balls you’re using. The basic idea is always the same though, get them in there without hurting yourself. To that end, here are some tips along with step-by-step instructions.
  1. Use lubrication on the balls to help them glide in.
  2. Lay down if you haven’t done this before, then insert the ball (or balls) into the vagina while in a relaxed position.
  3. Hold the balls inside the vagina by tensing your leg muscles together and doing kegel exercises.
  4. Once they’re in you can sit up or move around depending on your ability, women with more experience can insert them without having to lay down and keep them in while moving around the house.

Quick Tips
toy cleaner
  • It’s not uncommon to find women on the internet claiming to wear them in public, many of them probably do. If that sounds like something you’d be into then be sure to wear them at home until you’re very comfortable with them and can hold them in for a very long time. Otherwise you might be in for one hell of an “oops” moment in public…
  • Metal or glass balls can be more difficult for beginners to hold onto, you might want to start with plastic or silicone if you haven’t at least somewhat regularly done kegel exercises recently.
  • It will help them slide in easier if you use lubrication, but keep in mind that the easier they go in the easier they’ll come out too. Find a good balance when it comes to how much lube you use.
  • Thoroughly wash the balls with warm soapy water before and after each use.Toy cleaner can also be used. If you’re using balls that are attached via a string or silicone coating of some kind take the time to disassemble them as much as possible and thoroughly wash around the connections. Unattached metal or glass balls are the easiest to clean.
Don’t panic if you have trouble getting them back out or if they get stuck. They can’t get lost in there so relax, add some more lube, move around or squat and bear down. They’ll come out.
